Contacts for Washington Record Sources

Washington Busted Mugshots is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody or has been released, retrieve or remove a booking photo, arrange bail, or obtain an official record. Contact the agency or court that keeps the record for a current answer or copy.

Choose the Washington Office That Holds the Record

Washington has no single statewide booking desk. Local arrests are handled by the county or city agency responsible for the booking, while state-prison custody, court cases, and historical records have separate official systems. Start with the record type and the county where the arrest occurred; a public listing does not establish a person's current status or final case outcome.

For a request to a state or local agency, the Washington Public Records Act requires access to public records subject to exemptions. Under RCW 42.56.520, an agency must respond within five business days, but that is a response deadline rather than a promise that copies will be produced by then. Washington's jail-register statute, RCW 70.48.100, makes the register open for inspection while generally treating other jail records, including booking photos, as confidential. Ask for the specific record and let its custodian decide what may be released.

  • County or city arrest: Use the Washington County Directory to choose the county guide for the place of arrest. Then use the responsible sheriff or police agency's official roster or records-request process. The statewide booking-record guide explains the difference between a jail register and a booking photograph.
  • State custody: The DOC Incarcerated Search is for people currently incarcerated in state facilities. For a record request, use the DOC Public Records Request page. DOC's public search is not a statewide county-arrest roster and does not display a general public booking-photo gallery.
  • Court case or outcome: Start with the Washington Courts name and case search. The statewide index is a reference tool; the court of record or clerk holds the official case record. Sealed matters, juvenile material, and restricted documents may not appear in an open search.
  • Older correctional records: Search the Washington State Digital Archives by name, collection, or date. For appraisal and research guidance, use the State Archives law-enforcement records page; ordinary booking photos are not all retained as archival records.
  • DOC supervision warrant: Review the agency's Secretary's Warrant Search for its limited warrant purpose. Do not approach a listed person; follow DOC's safety instructions.
  • Federal or immigration custody: The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator has no public photo field. The ICE detainee locator covers current immigration detention, not a Washington criminal booking record.
